Celebrating Our Newest VTEC Graduates at Solomon

On Thursday, 15 May 2025, we proudly celebrated our latest cohort of graduates from our Vocational Training and Employment Centre (VTEC) program.

Our 11 graduates attended a ceremony in Karratha alongside friends, families, and members of the VTEC and operational teams.

The ceremony commenced with a heartfelt Welcome to Country by Ngarluma Traditional Elder, Kerry Churnside.

Warren Fish, Director Approvals, Communities & Environment, hosted the event and welcomed the graduates to the team, as they embark on full-time roles at Solomon mine operations.

“VTEC is a ground-breaking program that has been empowering generational change for First Nations peoples for over 18 years,” said Warren.

“It has opened doors for thousands of First Nations people here at Fortescue, creating real sustainable pathways to employment and importantly, fulfilling careers.”

“Everyone of you graduating here today should be really proud of what you achieved in the program, and the time and focus time you have dedicated to building the necessary skills for a successful career in mining.”

“You’re joining Fortescue at such an exciting time, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes you.”

Congratulations to our latest VTEC graduates. We wish you all the best for a successful career with Fortescue.

What is VTEC?

Our Vocational Training Employment Centre (VTEC)program has been providing sustainable career pathways for First Nations people for 18 years.

The program is a key part of our training and development strategy, and is built on the concept that, following the completion of training, participants are guaranteed employment.
