Christmas Creek’s first electric digger now in operation
Christmas Creek’s first electric digger has begun work at Hall Hub, marking a key step in Fortescue’s decarbonisation journey.

Christmas Creek’s first electric digger recently broke ground, marking a significant milestone in Fortescue’s decarbonisation journey.
The digger was put to work in Hall Hub, after weeks of preparation by our Decarbonisation, Asset Management and Christmas Creek Mining teams.
“It’s incredible to see this groundbreaking advancement in mining technology actually working in the pit,” says Christmas Creek Mining Manager, Rebecca Roper, who recently joined the Fortescue Family. “
It’s a testament to the vision and dedication of our people.”
The Christmas Creek EX7144 is the fourth electric digger in operation at Fortescue and the first of nine to be delivered across our Pilbara operations this calendar year.
Christmas Creek’s second electric digger is already on the build pad and preparing to be electrified, with another two due on site before July.
“We’ve had the opportunity to learn from other sites, including our colleagues at Cloudbreak which has streamlined the commissioning process,” says Christmas Creek General Manager, Asad Majrouh.
“These new diggers are pivotal – not just for Christmas Creek but also for Fortescue - in our efforts to reduce carbon emissions across our operations.”
By replacing diesel-powered machinery with electric alternatives, Fortescue is setting a precedent for the mining industry and demonstrating that sustainability and productivity can coexist. Congratulations to everyone involved.
