LEAP participants visit Iron Bridge for immersive learning experience
A cohort of our future First Nations leaders visited Iron Bridge to complete Module Three of the Leadership Empowerment for Aboriginal People (LEAP) program, taking part in hands-on learning experiences that deepened their understanding of community, culture, and environmental preservation.

A cohort of our First Nations future leaders recently visited Iron Bridge to complete Module Three of their Leader Empowerment for Aboriginal People (LEAP) program development program, a milestone that delivered lasting value not only for the participants, but also for the wider Iron Bridge team.
During their visit, the group took part in a wide range of hands-on learning experiences. A standout moment was the Welcome to Country, delivered by the Nyamal Traditional Custodian group, setting the tone for a culturally rich and respectful program.
The Organisational Development and Aboriginal Development teams then led the cohort through core course work, helping to strengthen their understanding and confidence in key areas of community and culture. They had the chance to visit Country alongside the Heritage team, gaining deeper insights into cultural and environmental preservation at Iron Bridge.
A key highlight of the visit was a one-on-one leadership session, where participants sat down with senior Iron Bridge leaders to discuss career development, goals, and opportunities. They also put their communication skills to the test with a sales pitch activity, presenting to the Iron Bridge leadership team — a session that combined learning with confidence building in a supportive environment.
The team ended the experience with a memorable culinary dinner under the stars, creating space for reflection and connection.
“The visit was a rewarding experience not just for the participants, but also for the Iron Bridge team, who took great pride in welcoming the group to site and showcasing the operation,” said Nathan Jetson, General Manager Operations Iron Bridge. “Thank you to everyone who made this visit a success.”
This immersive module reflects Fortescue’s commitment to building meaningful pathways, investing in First Nations talent, and ensuring our workplaces reflect the knowledge and values of our First Nations community.
What is LEAP?
LEAP is a nine-month internal program developed for emerging First Nations leaders. Launched in 2015, LEAP aims to instill confidence, knowledge, and self-awareness, equipping participants to advance successfully into their next-level roles.
Through LEAP, participants gain invaluable knowledge and skills to support their career growth and are connected with a network of experienced mentors and facilitators. The program is designed to unlock participants’ leadership potential, preparing them—and their leaders—for the next steps in their careers.
