Iron ore
Our Pilbara iron ore operations include our two large hematite mining hubs and one magnetite operation which are connected by 760 kilometres of heavy haul rail to our shipping and towage infrastructure in Port Hedland.
Chichester Hub
Our Chichester Hub in the Chichester Ranges includes two mines, at Cloudbreak and Christmas Creek, which have an annual production capacity of around 100mtpa from three ore processing facilities.
Cloudbreak is located on Palyku and Nyiyaparli Country. Christmas Creek is located on Nyiyaparli Country and is home to our Green Energy Hub.
Christmas Creek is also home to our Green Metal Project which represents a step forward in our ambition to produce green metal at a commercial scale in the Pilbara, with first production anticipated in 2025.
A 60MW solar farm powers day time operations at the Chichester Hub, displacing around 100 million litres of diesel every year. Chichester is also home to the first airfield in Australia to operate with fully solar powered airstrip lighting.
Western Hub
Our Western Hub near the Hamersley Ranges includes two mines, Solomon and Eliwana.
Solomon is located on Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi Country in the Hamersley Ranges 60km north of Tom Price and 120km west of Chichester Hub. Eliwana is located on Puutu Kunti Kurrama Pinikura Country, 140km west of Solomon.
Together, these mines have an annual production capacity of around 100 million tonnes per annum.
Iron Bridge
Iron Bridge is our magnetite mining operation, located 145km south of Port Hedland.
Unlike our hematite operations, Iron Bridge produces a wet concentrate product which is transported to Port Hedland through a 135-kilometre-long specialist slurry pipeline where dewatering and materials handling occurs. It also includes a return water pipeline.
Iron Bridge is an unincorporated joint venture between FMG Magnetite Pty Ltd (69 per cent) and Formosa Steel IB Pty Ltd (31 per cent).
